Embroidery project and a bit of silliness

Yesterday I finished my first embroidery project! It's from the book Doodle Stitching . I've been wanting to learn how to embroider for a few years, but taking that first step toward trying something new can be so hard. My little owl has lots of imperfections, but it feels good to have finally attempted (and finished!) an embroidery project.

On Saturday I gathered up the books I read over the summer and took them to Recycle Bookstore in exchange for new ones. I got a book on creativity, one on lace knitting, and Pretty Little Pincushions . I love pincushions! Now that I'm finally learning to embroider and hand sew, I'm excited about making these.

I love these pincushions in little tea cups from the book.

The theme for my ATC group this month is back-to-school. This is the silly ATC I sent to my friend Dogwood. It includes a couple of school reports written by my inner seven year-old.

This is a school photo of me at the age of six or seven.

Happy Sunday to you :o)

Thanks for your comments Theresa and Dogwood. I so enjoyed learning a new crafty skill and making that owl. Pincushions are probably next!

Hi Stacy!
I love the owl, it looks just like the one in the book...what a great job you did! My boys like the picture of the raccoon in the same section, so I'm hoping to make one (or three :-) of them soon!

Have a great week!

Thanks Michelle! I really enjoyed learning to embroider and making that little owl. If you do make the racoons, I hope you post a picture.

Oh Stacy, loved this post! You're such a scream! Love those little notes. How ingenious. You're always so creative. Your blog is definitely A+!
Your new books sound fab. Hope you'll bring them along to the book club. I like the 'pretty little' range. What was the title of your creativity book? I've never tried lace knitting.
WOW your embroidery project is fantastic. I love your owl. So cute. Looks like you're an expert. I don't see any imperfections that you've noted. Your owl is so neat. I hope your proud of yourself. It is great.

Thanks Katherine! I'm proud of that little owl, but I have to confess, I didn't notice I was supposed to enlarge the pattern 270% until I was halfway through. So it is teeny-tiny. I also need to practice sewing seams around the edges. But I do like that little guy and have him on my nightstand next to my bed. Thanks again for your kind words and being such a supportive friend.

Hi Stacy,
I rec'd the ATC today and love it.
The little owl is darling and how great that you can teach yourself to do new crafts. Looking forward to seeing some pincushions.
